A fairy tale before bedtime

newsstand is the latest edition of the Newspaper , which takes a baptism this week one of my new little series, "The Tales of Grandpa Nedo wrong."

When Father Stefano Gorla , new director of the Catholic weekly magazine for boys, asked me to write some "glides", as known in drafting the self-contained stories, at first I thought of giving up. I've written several in the past and I've always done with a background of suffering. Being able to come up with something sufficiently unique in the limited space of six to eight pages is not an easy undertaking. Not having the space to introduce unusual situations or environments, we always end up riding issues all too well known. Sometimes I could not find the idea good, nice, a bit 'different from the usual and this has given me great satisfaction. But on other occasions I have to confess that I am lying con rassegnazione sui cliché più scontati, e temevo di trovarmi troppo spesso in questa condizione, dovendone scrivere ancora. Finché mi è venuta l'idea: se devo sfruttare i topoi narrativi più risaputi, perché non farlo rileggendo a modo mio i racconti più conosciuti in assoluto, cioè le fiabe classiche?

Ed ecco nonno Nedo, anziano bizzarro e creativo che quando deve raccontare una fiaba al nipotino prima di dormire, lo fa a modo suo.

“ Biancaneve e sette nani” nella scombinata fantasia di nonno Nedo è diventata così “Biancanana e i sette spilungoni”. A disegnarla è stato chiamato quel geniaccio e gran maestro della matita che è Luca Salvagno , momentaneamente in libera uscita dallo jacovittiano Cocco Bill che porta avanti da par suo sulle stesse pagine da più d'un decennio. In one of my now habitual binge reading "theme" in recent weeks I have made out a few books waited a long time on the shelves of my library and have as their denominator common figure of Dante Alighieri as the protagonist, or at least co-star.

Del 2002 è “La mano di Dante” (“In the Hand of Dante”) di Nick Tosches , Mondadori, 18,00 euro. La vicenda si svolge su due piani temporali. In quello odierno, in chiave noir , lo stesso Tosches è protagonista della vicenda, in veste di malavitoso che entra in possesso di poco plausibili manoscritti danteschi e cerca di venderli a collezionisti privati. In quello storico, un Dante quanto mai insoddisfatto e tormentato va “a lezione” di vita da un “maestro” giudeo, mentre sua moglie Gemma vive problematiche romantico-femministe. Un'idea dell'Alighieri e della sua famiglia abbastanza “da americani”, se posso dire. I personaggi tratteggiati da Tosches mi sembrano decisamente poco veritieri e alcuni elementi biografici addirittura errati, almeno da quel che posso giudicare in base alle biografie dantesche che ho letto per scrivere il mio romanzo e “La vita” di Dante a fumetti. A cominciare da quella di Giampaolo Dossena (“Dante”, Longanesi, 1995, Lit. 30.000), che consiglio caldamente a tutti gli interessati. Un vero spasso intellettuale.

Meglio, da questi punti di vista, la seconda opera di Pearl “L'ombra di Edgar” (“The Poe shadow”, 2006, Rizzoli), che si occupa invece del mistero che circondò la morte dell'autore de “I delitti della via Morgue”.

C'est tout. Se qualcuno fosse a conoscenza di altre opere con Dante protagonista, lo invito a segnalarmele ringraziandolo anticipatamente.

The only purchase I made in the book is autobiographical Cartoomics Stefano Babini "It was no picnic," Dada Publisher. I was very curious to read it. I had seen some parts of the preview, I had read a few reviews and I know the author, first met (if my memory is lacking, and it is very likely) quite a few 'years ago in a Lucca, when I presented himself as a cartoonist with high hopes and fresh husband of the sister of a dear friend "of the pen."

In the book, her story begins a little 'later, divorce was done. It is the story of a life with few rules and different tiles, some come and some masochistically randomly searched. Like all autobiographies that respect, this has the merit of sincerity, even where the author autoassolve perhaps more than necessary. Sono rimasto a Cartoomics poco più di 24 ore, impedito a restare di più da impegni professionali e familiari. Ci è scappata comunque un'intervistina su BooksWeb.tv . Chi ha voglia di vedersela digiti “Toninelli” nel riquadro “Cerca” di quella piattaforma... e buon ascolto.
Quello che conta per me, però, ben più anche delle copie vendute al bancone, è stato rivedere gli amici lettori, quelli che mi seguono pure ad altre manifestazioni come quelli “stanziali” che da anni mi riaspettavano a Milano. E trovare l'ennesima conferma della loro “bellezza”. Ragazzi, giovani e meno giovani, maschi e femmine, sono tutti allegri, festosi e gentili. Lo so, nell'intero comicdom c'è una prevalenza di belle persone allegre e curiose, ma se posso azzardare un'analisi sociologica a pelle, direi che quelli che leggono fumetti umoristici hanno un “sorriso interiore” in più che li illumina. Nel nostro voltastomachevole paese di furbi, disonesti e mafiosi, questa fetta “sana” di popolazione mi riconcilia ogni volta un po' col mondo. Perché i potenti e i loro servi potranno anche provare un senso di onnipotenza nel governare a loro piacimento le nostre vite, o godersi i miliardi, le “barche” e le ville, per non parlare delle escort e degli altri generi di conforto che ricevono da chi vuole corromperli, ma alla fin dei conti mi fanno una certa pena se penso che nessuno di loro avrà mai la ricchezza di quel sorriso interiore.
E dunque sapere che, quando solo soletto siedo in poltrona a inventarmi le battute delle strisce o al tavolo a disegnarle, sto lavorando per i miei meravigliosi lettori e lettrici, è una cosa che mi inorgoglisce e emoziona. Grazie!
